Courageous Living
by Randy Pressnell, D. Min.

I would like to give you a personal invitation to be used by God mightily in strengthening our families at Oak Grove Baptist Church. It is as simple as marking your calendar for Sunday evening February 26th at 5:30pm and protecting that calendar date with all your might! The church is having movie night and is showing the movie fresh off the theatre big screens—Courageous! It is produced by the creators of Fireproof, Facing the Giants, and Flywheel. This is an action-packed cinema event that will have the entire family laughing together one minute and crying together the next and fathers leaving with a commitment to be godly fathers and husbands.

It is a story of four everyday heroes who make a difference on the street but who struggle to serve and protect their loved ones at home. As the police officers discover they are missing the mark and their families are drifting apart like many families in our church and community are doing—will they look to God to find strength and direction to lead their families again? Or will they take the “easy-way” out and follow the path so many are following today?

Debbi and I were invited to preview this movie this past June before its release and I just have to tell you that it is an action-packed thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat! There is heartbreak and extreme joy. There is doubt and there is faith. There is defeat and there is victory. It portrays the struggles that all of us go through as our families experience life. You will want to share this cinematic experience to see how one’s Christian faith can be active even in the traumatic episodes of our life.

I truly believe this event can be transformational in your Christian life! I believe this event can be transformational in your home life! I believe this event has the potential to be transformational in the life of our church and community! Even if you have already seen the movie you can be a part of one of the greatest opportunities we have planned in a very long time to positively impact our families for Christ and His church! How? Here are five things you can do to be a part of the courageous team at Oak Grove…

1)      Mark your calendar and commit to be here with your family or friends.
2)      Invite your friends and family members—we have 600 tickets to give away free as your tool to invite those you know need to be here for this event.
3)      Pray with all of your heart for God’s help in not only inviting folks to come but that God would protect them from anything that would interfere with their coming.
4)      If you have already viewed the film and don’t need to be inside the event with family or friends who have not seen the film—volunteer to work! You could serve in the nursery (approved workers only who have passed a criminal background check). Or you could serve as a greeter, in the prayer room, or in the watchmen ministry.
5)      Sign up for one of two Discipleship Training courses as a follow-up to this event.

This is your opportunity to serve the Lord with the gifts He has given you! Be courageous! Mark your calendar and start inviting family and friends! Pray for the strengthening of our homes!
